SUMMARY:Workshop: Erasmus+ adult-education group from FI at _nannatextiles
DESCRIPTION:Nanna hosted two separate Erasmus+ "job shadowers" a year ago i
n late 2025. Ritva was a weaving expert\, who ran a weaving center in Espo
o\, near Helsinki. Anu arrived some weeks later from Oulu. She teaches a w
ide variety of textile classes and also creates textile art. As part of th
e official program during "Oulu - European Culture Capital 2026" her art w
as also exhibited.\n\nThanks to a grant that Anu's group was able to recei
ve from the adult education section of the EU-Erasmus+ program enables the
exchange-week in Stuttgart. \n\nNanna provides for varied textile-input.
But she is also excited to learn from the participants in the group. Excha
nge in both directions\, learning from and with each other is at the core
of this visit.\n\nNanna passes on information of the way she gives worksho
ps. It includes both practical textile technique education\, as well as cu
ltural transfer in a lecture. Cultural appropriation is a dear subject to
Nanna that she pays close attention to in her teaching-sessions especially
on topics that are e.g. from Asia or India. \n\nThe group from Finland wi
ll learn about Nanna's research activities and curatorial work. During the
Covid-Pandemic she e.g. started studying Lotte Hofmann (1907-1981)\, a Ge
rman textile artist and embroider\, whose legacy was almost forgotten. Tha
nks to a grant from the Ministry of Culture in Baden-Württemberg\, Nanna
could focus on carrying out research. Meanwhile she was asked to join the
board of the Lotte Hofmann Stiftung für Textilkunst in Deutschland (Lotte
Hofmann Foundation for Textile Art in Germany)\, which organizes competit
ions in textile art in Germany. At present the prize-winners and nominated
artists' works are on show at the Textile Collection Max Berk Heidelberg.
The group visits Heidelberg to an impression of cutting-edge textile art
in Germany at the moment. A year ago\, at the same museum in Heidelberg\,
Dr. Kristine Scherer (the curator of the textile collection) and Nanna cur
ated a large Lotte Hofmann Retrospective. Many Lotte-Hofmann-works were on
display that originated from private collections and had never been shown
to the public before. Loans from Landesmuseum Württemberg (State Museum
of Württemberg)\, that stores the largest Lotte-Hofmann-Collection\, were
also on show. The Baden-Württemberg Foundation finanzed the retrospectiv
e.\n\nImportant in Nanna's work are collaborations and concept-development
with different partners\, also abroad. Various cases will be studied and
used for assessment.\n\nThe Finnish participants work on individual textil
es projects that are instigated during or stem from the Stuttgart visit. S
ome may develop quickly and idea of what-to-do. Taking time and making e.g
. samples is also an idea.\n\nWe are all looking forward to the creative a
nd fruitful time together. Welcome to Stuttgart!
